The true story of the man who is regarded as the first private detective as he rises from notorious criminal to police accomplice in post-Revolutionary France.
Synopsis
Set in the aftermath of the French Revolution, criminal and escaped prisoner Vidocq struggles to remain free as a relentless policeman vows to bring him back to jail. On the run, he unearths a conspiracy that threatens to throw all of Europe into hysteria - a plot to assassinate the soon-to-be-crowned-Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.
Joining forces with the very policeman who has pursued him all these years, Vidocq goes deep undercover to stop the dastardly attack during Napoleon's coronation at Notre-Dame. After saving the Emperor, he's finally granted his freedom and the one thing he's always yearned for: a purpose. He establishes a new detective division - a plainclothes unit comprised of former criminals.
